Like most Harley riders, I have spent lots of money and lots of time trying to customize my various bikes, only to be left with the bike that still wasn’t exactly right. Once I made the decision to have a custom built, I then was faced with another problem. Who could build it? A friend of mine told me about a guy who had a shop literally right down the street. I figured what the hell. The minute I walked into Dave’s shop, I knew he was the real deal. Azul Diablo, Low Life, and Throttle Threads were on display in the shop. The next couple of hours were spent with Dave going over the basic design I had in mind, what I liked in a bike, and what I disliked. As promised, Dave had a price put together in 24 hours later. I have to tell you I was shocked at his quote. I expected some outrageous number, and instead was given a price that told me he was in business to develop a customer base for the long haul. At that point, I said “go for it.” From that day on it was a total blast. We designed all of the sheet metal together, picked out the rims, motor and all other parts. The best part was having Dave call me prior to cutting or fabricating the metal work, and asking me, “Do you want to come see lines before I cut them.” He totally kept me involved in the process, while at the same time giving me his professional opinion if he disagreed with an idea. Even though at times he disagreed with an idea, he never made me feel stupid or ignorant–always the consummate professional. However, the best part was picking up the bike. Excuse my French, Unfucking real. Anybody who knows me knows I am a total perfectionist. The bike was without a doubt perfect. It rides like a Cadillac, and turns heads wherever I go. The bike is absolutely beautiful. It has won multiple awards; including 1st Place Open Class at the Donnie Smith Show. I have had no problems, and Dave is always there to make sure everything is perfect. Ever time I pull into the shop to visit he goes over the bike with a fine tooth comb, and makes any adjustments needed. He truly cares about his reputation and product. Having Dave Dupor build my first custom bike has been a truly great experience. Not only did I get the bike of my dreams, but a made a friend along the way. Both of which are quite difficult to find.
